How important is Bible study to the average person? What does the bible mean to most Christians? Most Christians have a Bible and even many non-Christians have a Bible in their home. How often does a Christian read or study the Bible? I wonder if Christians truly believe that God wrote the Bible. Do Christians take Bible truth seriously by living according to all that it states? If the Bible was truly written by God then you would think that All Christians would want to live by a standard that came from a perfect being. I would expect non-Christians to live by their own code of life but you would think that Christians would live by the words of their God that save them and gave them eternal life in heaven.

Is the Bible a book that Christians hold dear to themselves hanging on every word or a book that provides suggestions for particular problems one may be having? How often does someone use a bible commentary to better understand the Bible showing to God that the Bible is something that holds value to him or her? Is the Bible a book that holds ALL of the answers to life? Do Christians have the right to call themselves Christians and live contrary to the Bible? Some may consider the book as a guide to life picking and choosing what they want to live by. Wouldn’t that make them a god to themselves?

What if the Bible is the very Word of God and God requires all who are in His family to live by every principle and even by every word written. bible study would be very important to the one who treasures God. Do we really love God or are we just people who want to be like everybody else? Maybe we just don’t like the way the world does things or how the world looks and we just want to be in another category? Maybe many people who call themselves Christians are just masquerading as a Christian because Bible truth is not important. The world is becoming way too evil and people who want to be good for the most part are looking for a new life that they can call good. A good Bible commentary would help us to understand the standards that God requires for mankind to be like.

Many so-called Christians will not make a total commitment to Christ and His Word because the way is very extreme from the life in the world system. Are we as Christians to take the wisdom of the Bible when it comes to the right living?

If the Bible were not actually important to you then maybe it would be a good idea to just get rid of it and be who you really are. At least if your honest before God maybe you’ll have a chance to be saved instead of just pretending that you are a Christian.

I think God wants a real family who truly loves Him and obeys what He says. If you really have an appreciation for God and all He has done for you then you would automatically return your love towards God and not think of yourself but think about what God wants. The Bible is the standard for a true Christian and the ones who are really saved by the blood of Christ have an uncompressing devotion to live by every word written in this holy book and the rest of mankind are lost or are just masquerading as Christians. Maybe we need a campaign to get the so-called Christians saved starting with many of the Pastors in our churches. Put the Bible on the shelf of your heart!

Can anyone deny that there are passages in the Bible that are very hard to understand and sometimes hard to accept? The question is of course, rhetorical. Certainly no one could make such a claim. Those who would deny that there are difficult scriptures either do not spend much time in the Word or they are simply dishonest. I am not sure which of the two is worse.

From simple questions about where Cain’s wife came from, to more complex issues such as the apparent misquote in Matthew 27:9-10; there are literally scores of passages where there seems to be confusion. In some instances it is seems almost impossible to reconcile what is being said with other portions of scripture.

In ministry, it would be relatively easy to avoid the difficulties and not bring attention to them at all. Who would know? And if the Bible was just a book written by men, Biblicists such as me might be inclined to do just that. But the Bible is not just a book. It is the transmitted thoughts and will of Almighty God. It is the Word (and words) of God. It is the final and only authority on truth and fact.

Many have attacked it. Many have tried to prove it false, and in so doing, have been converted by its awesome power and authority. Men will claim that it is full of contradictions, but are not able to point out a single example to support their argument.

Knowing there are those who would jump at the chance to find problems in scripture should not make believers apprehensive or shy in declaring it the plenary word of the Living God. Nor should we refrain from using those portions we feel might pose difficulties to explain. Too often Bible teachers will avoid passages in their sermons and lessons because they imagine there is conflict in what the scripture says.

Difficulty in understanding a passage does not discredit what is being said. Rather it reflects on the knowledge level of the one who sees it as difficult. The fact that we cannot immediately understand or explain the difficulty away does not mean it cannot be solved with proper research and prayer. Sometimes that research takes a long time, but this is the case with almost anything that one wants to learn. I may not understand what the mechanic is telling me about needed vehicle repairs, but I could learn mechanics myself and gain that understanding if I was willing to make the effort.

In my formative years as a Christian, I came across many difficult or hard to understand passages in my studies. Indeed, some of what I read seemed illogical, perhaps even impossible and they tested my faith. Yet I trusted the authority of scripture and accepted it as truth. Years later, with a more sound knowledge of scripture, those same passages posed absolutely no difficulty to me whatsoever. With experience and broader familiarity with scripture, the once difficult passages became very easy to understand.

The Apostle Paul spoke of the “milk” and “meat” of the word. Christians must start out with the milk or easier-to-digest things of God before they are ready to consume the meatier things. It is the superficial or inexperienced reader who adds calamity to a difficult verse. They read something they do not understand and panic. Too often young Christians get bogged down trying to understand something that they simply are not capable of grasping at their present knowledge level. Sometimes spiritual anxiety over such small issues completely consumes them and they run around like Chicken Little declaring that their faith is falling.

The seasoned, faithful reader of the Bible knows that understanding will come in time after appropriate effort is invested in researching the perceived difficulty. They have been down this road before. They have come up against seemingly unexplainable passages that subsequent studies explained. There is always an explanation. God’s Word is always correct and without conflict or contradiction.

I am not trying to diminish the fact that there are very difficult passages of scripture that are problematic to the student of scripture. II Peter 3:16 confirms this. We are told:

“As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which

are some things hard to be understood which they that are unlearned

and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures…”

God openly tells us through the Apostle Peter that some of the things written in the Bible are hard to be understood and we wrestle with them. Why are they hard? Is it because God purposely wanted to hide something from us? Is it because God wants to play a game of cat and mouse with his higher knowledge? No. God does not play games. He wants us to understand, but that understanding must come when we are ready for strong meat. Believers must go through a growing process. Verse 18 of this chapter confirms this:

“But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior

              Jesus Christ.”

In keeping with all the other passages that tell us to “study”, “prepare” or “learn”, we are told to “grow in grace”. The only way to grow in grace is to read the manual (the bible) faithfully and consistently, building ourselves up in knowledge and understanding.

Increasing our knowledge in the Bible is like any other thing we learn – we must study and learn in order to grow and excel. That is precisely why it is important to not shy away from difficult passages. We need to learn what they mean. If we shy away from them, our confidence in the word will wane and our regimen for study will eventually wane as well.

There really are no difficult passages. There is just a lack of understanding of those passages. This can be remedied through faithful study. The wisest advice I ever received from a man of God I would like to pass on here. He said “Put your nose in the book and keep your eyes on Jesus.” The meaning is clear; study and trust the Lord to bring you to a place of understanding.

I believe that Bible reading can be as enjoyable as anything we do under the sun. It should anyway because after all, it is the Bread of Life for our soul. But it takes a little extra effort, and perhaps investments, to grab the attention of say, the children, and make them see the importance of the Bible.

the bible of course is not just any ordinary book. It is a rich resource of spiritual insights and wisdom that can only be understood with the help of th Holy Spirit. Paul argued this effectively when he said:
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. (1 Corinthians 2.11)

Even then, the Bible should not be misunderstood as a puzzling book that only smart men can decipher. Indeed, God has revealed His plans, not to the wise, but to babes in heart. (Matthew 11.25) The Bible is simple enough for even the least educated to understand.

Here are my simple ideas that can help anyone get back their passion for Bible reading.
Decide to read the Bible for your own spiritual benefits. What do eating, working, playing, and watching TV have in common? They are actions that we decide to do every day. Why not reading the Bible? Why not read the Bible when you can learn so many things from God from its very ages? I’m convinced that unless we make a decision to step into a spiritual journey with the Book. (If you want to know what the Bible means to you and your faith, read this article.)

Set a time and a place for you to read your Bible. There is a saying that goes, “a place for everything, and everything in its place.” In a world that’s getting more crowded and noisy, God’s Word requires that we set aside a place and time if we want to gain the wisdom It offers freely. Find your self a corner where you can focus on your reading. It can be any place in your house, in a park, or a coffee shop. In my younger days I used to bring my reading materials outdoors, usually under the shade of a tree, where I read for hours with nothing to disturb me (except the chicken in our back yard). When I moved to the city, my favorite reading hangout was any coffee shop that is cozy and quiet. (Starbucks!)

Now, one reason we cannot stand reading the Bible is because we usually reserve the time when we are most tired, stressed and totally spent. Why not give the most active time of your day to Bible reading? The early morning is also a good time to spend with your Bible.

Bring your tools with you. Consider Bible reading as a task as well as an adventure. Why? Because when you go on an adventure trip, you will want to bring tools with you to help you along the way. That’s why. Read your Bible with a pen and a notebook and probably a dictionary and other reference materials that can help you discover and understand the meaning of words and things. You will also want to write down your questions, the ideas you discovered, the wisdom you learned, and things to do later. Now that’s an adventure!

Decide which way to take the trip. There are a number of ways you can begin your Bible journey. Basically, the Bible as a book consists of biographies, historical accounts of places and records of ideas and cultures of the ancient days. The Bible is also a book of wise sayings, love stories, doctrinal expositions and prophetic utterances. Whichever way you start the path will surely lead you great adventures with God and His people, and will unravel spiritual riches that are definitely out of this world.

Write as you read. As I’ve mentioned earlier, write all your discoveries because it is one of the surest way of not losing them. Don’t trust your mind.

Don’t end your reading session without giving yourself an assignment. Having an assignment that you will work on helps you look forward to your next Bible reading session. You can take not of things that you might do to supplement your Bible reading. Is there anything you will need to ask to your Pastor or parents? You can use your friends, the library or the Internet to supplement and expand your learning.

Treat yourself afterwards. Better yet, bring your things to your favorite coffee shop so you can read and enjoy your favorite blend.

Also, you can try reading with a group of friends. This is very interesting when you have friends who want to read and share at the same time. This is exciting, I tell you.

Vacation bible school is a popular summertime activity for children from the ages of 3 to 10, or thereabouts. In many cases there is much more emphasis on “vacation” than “bible,” which is understandable for the age group, although like everything else there is a broad range of types and styles of these programs.

Some parents do consider the religious component of primary importance, especially for older children, and will choose a program that has more structured bible studies, at least stories with biblical characters and themes. For other parents, the most important thing is the socialization of their children, and the interpersonal skills they will develop in the vacation bible school setting. Children instinctively like being around other children, for the most part, and this allows most kids the opportunity for a great deal of fun, along with some education, too.

Denominational or not
For parents of all Christian denominations, from Catholic to Pentecostal, vacation bible school is good for themselves as well as for the children. It is, for many families, a happy combination of childcare, play time, class projects and Sunday school. Among the religiously oriented programs, parents can seek out one with bible instruction that is appropriate for their denomination. If their own church is large enough to offer such a vacation program, they will most likely place their children in that one to maintain the peer group associations and continuity.

Interestingly, some Hindu, Buddhist and even Muslin parents, if they cannot locate a vacation program in their own faith system, will place their children in a Christian vacation bible school. They are more concerned with their children getting socialized, learning to play together, having a positive environment and learning ethical behavior than they are with having yet another source besides themselves for their children’s spiritual instruction. These days, they can choose from a variety of programs that emphasize common positive themes, citizenship and education as opposed to a steady diet of religious lessons.

From the kids’ point of view
Children are complex little creatures, as all parents know. But no matter how unique they are (and they all are), they share certain traits, worldwide and in all cultures. The reasons all children should enjoy vacation bible school include the most basic one, of course, which is that they are social animals that love to play. With the great mix of activities, for both body and mind, the good vacation bible schools will help children channel their abundant energies into good things. They will learn that learning itself is enjoyable, and that working hard can be its own reward and a source of continuing enjoyment, too.

Some few children will have a hard time adjusting, and others will not want to let go of mommy’s hand at the door on the first day. The fact is, a parent who relents and lets a child decide on her own not to attend, is robbing the youngster of a tremendous opportunity for growing and maturing. Letting go of their parents and establishing their own “person” in the world is at once a frightening and exciting thing for children, and parents simply must allow them to go through it. In the vast majority of cases, the child who arrives crying and missing mom and dad will be up to her elbows in finger paint by mid-morning.

The truth is, many people remember their vacation bible school experiences with great joy, and consider them important landmarks on their life’s journey. The benefits of this time spent in learning, play and some kid-style morality tales can last a lifetime. In fact, some people do not realize until much later in life the tremendous impact things like vacation bible school had on their thinking, their ethics and their lives. If you’re a parent with young children, there are few better ways to support their general growth, positive play activities, education and (low-key) moral instruction than with a couple of weeks of vacation bible school.

When I was young, I used to love to go to Sunday school just because I loved to hear the Bible stories. Quite honestly, even at a young age, I realized the church we went to was full of hypocrites, but that didn’t stop me from learning and enjoying the stories that were presented to me. Today, I don’t often attend church because most of the ones I have encountered are just as bad as the first one, and I certainly don’t think worshipping with a bunch of hypocrites each Sunday is going to save my soul.

It wasn’t until college that I realized how many different creeds and religious beliefs actually existed. The list goes on forever. Personally I was raised a Lutheran. Of course this doesn’t mean that I have total faith in these beliefs still today.

Viewpoints change as you age and travel through life. Experiences and acquired knowledge can definitely lead you down an alternate path other than traditional bible books do. Once we’re molded into adults, things tend to become a bit clearer. Our individual ethos and personalities are developed more. Where do you stand in this large spectrum of religions and creeds?

Back when I was in the 7th grade, I began going to confirmation. This was a regular class at my church that I had to attend in order to later become confirmed. I was instantly introduced to bible books.

As a group, we read stories from the books that I now regard as parables. Although many will disagree, I don’t take biblical stores as actual history. I have no idea whether or not they occurred at all. From where I stand they seem to be designed to teach morals and good judgment. They’re a kind of lesson plan. Each one you read, you learn a lesson about what’s considered right and wrong. This is all fine and good. I can’t see anything wrong with it. My wife on the other hand, has no respect for bible books. She feels that they far too often degrade the women. Women are not viewed as equals, but as something created for the men. They are also often blamed when something goes wrong. Basically the softer sex is deemed the corrupt one. I can imagine that many educated women see this as well. So are we actually to believe that bible books come from a higher power, or from men from long ago? Men who were writing things according to their own preferences and wishes.

If you are interested in some form of religion, then you should take it upon yourself to find out more. Attend a church service and see what you think of the sermon. Check out a few bible books on the web. They are on there now days. If nothing else, you may walk away with peace of mind concerning what happens after death. One thing I can say about my religious friends is that they’re generally more jovial and satisfied with life overall. That’s a good thing!

At any rate, there are a lot of great Bible stories out there, and you don’t need to go to church to get them. Not all churches are bad, I understand this completely, but there are many people like me who hang on to their faith, but aren’t interested in joining organized religious churches that make a mockery of what they are supposed to stand for. You can get Bible stories anywhere you look today, and you can get them at a good price too. You can also find coloring books and puzzles that are fashioned after some of your favorite stories.

Some of the best Bible stories are the ones that teach a lesson. These are the ones that have two stories in one, almost, and they can be applied to God as well as to regular life. Bible stories are often meant to teach a lesson, and perhaps that is why they were included in the Bible to begin with. Not only are you learning history, you are leaning a valuable lesson about what God wants for our world. They have a good lesson even for those who do not believe, and can benefit almost anyone in the quest to live a better life.

The best thing about modern Bible stories is that some are now written in a simple language that children can easily follow. I remember some of the Bible stories I heard as a child were so complex in language that I had a hard time following along, as any six-year-old child would. the bible stories remain the same, but the language is easy to understand, and the stories are easier to follow when they are written with children in mind. You can find these books in almost any bookstore, and also in any bookstore that is affiliated with a church.

This is a new series (1-31) of Verse No. in the Bible versus the Quran.

Verse No. 31 in the Old Testament says: God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Verse No. 31 in the New Testament says ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.

Verse No. 31 in the Noble Quran says: but if you do (it) not and never shall you do (it), then be on your guard against the fire of which men and stones are the fuel; it is prepared for the unbelievers; those who reject faith.

————————

The verse No. 31 in the Old Testament is Genesis 1:31

The verse says: God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Now, it is the sixth day of the creation of the heavens and the earth.

It seems likely that this sixth day was the longest day and it was full of activity.

Statistical study of the days of creation:

The sixth day of creation is described in seven verses of Genesis 1, from verse 24 to verse 31; and it took 285 words (10159 characters) to be described.

Verse-wise, word-wise and character-wise, the sixth day is the longest day ever in the process of the creation of the heavens and the earth.

The shortest days of the creation were the first day then the second day.

The first day is described in three verses (Genesis 1:3-5); and it took 51 words (216 characters) to be described.

The second day is described in three verses (Genesis 1:6-8); and it took 56 words (237 characters) to be described.

The third day is described in five verses (Genesis 1:9-13); and it took 120 words (518 characters) to be described.

The fourth day is described in six verses (Genesis 1:14-19); and it took 131 words (499 characters) to be described.

The fifth day is described in four verses (Genesis 1:24-31); and it took 103 words (439 characters) to be described.

It follows that the order of the days of the creation are the first, the second, the fifth, the third, the fourth then the sixth.

In other words, the first and the second days are the shortest days, then the fifth, the third and the fourth days are moderate days; and the sixth day is the longest one. This statistics is done according to the count of the verses, words and characters of every day in NIV of the bible.

Summary of the activity done in the sixth day of creation (Genesis 24-31)

24] And God said, “Let the earth produce living creatures …

25] God made the wild animals, the livestock according and all the creatures that move along the ground.

26] And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing…

27] God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

28] And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish and over the birds and over every living creature.

29] Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;

30] And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Hence, the activities of the sixth day include:

1) The Earth Produced living Creatures

2) Man was Created the Same Day that the Wild Animals Were

3) Man was made last of all the creatures.

4) Three domination: Be fruitful, Fill the earth, and subdue it and have dominion over the fish and over the birds and over every living thing.

5) The food of man and also the food of all the animals and all the birds is determined; it seems likely that the Bible is in favor of the vegetarians and even the wild animals’ food is the green plant (Are all the Beasts Vegetarians?). Also, the Food of all Birds is Green Plant.

6) Man the Image of God. Has the Female Too the Image of God?

All of the above points are discussed in the articles 24-30

————————

The verse No. 31 in the New Testament is Matthew 2:6

In the articles 26-30, Matthew 2:1-5 say:

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying: Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. He asked the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, where the Christ was to be born.

They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:

‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel. This is our topic, Matthew 2:6.

This is the second prophecy of Matthew about the Lord Jesus.

Who is this nameless prophet? He is Micah who said:

Micah 5:2 (New International Version)

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.

Upon reading Micah 5, the smart reader will find that Micah is talking about:

1) The city of troops, we never have such city in the New Testament.

2) A ruler over Israel, and Jesus was never a ruler over Israel

3) she who is in labor gives birth and the rest of his brothers return, and who were the rest of Jesus brothers which return?

4) he will be their peace, when the Assyrian invades our land and marches through our fortresses, we will raise against him seven shepherds, even eight leaders of men; and this never happened to Jesus

5) etc.; read the whole passage and take your time.

For these reasons, the second prophecy of Matthew about the Lord Jesus is not valid..

————————

Verse No. 31 in the Noble Quran is 2:24,

Chapter 2 is Surah AL-BAQARA (THE COW),

Verses 2:1-5 are talking about the believers. (articles 8-12)

Verses 2:6-7 are talking about the disbelievers. (articles 13-14)

Verses 2:8-20 are talking about the hypocrites. (articles 15-27)

The address of verses 2:21-24 is general to mankind.

In articles 28, verse 2:21 says:

O mankind! worship your guardian-lord, who created you and those who came before you, that you may have the chance to learn righteousness(so that you will be cautious)

In articles 29, verse 2:22 says:

Who (Allah) made the earth a resting place for you and the heaven a canopy and (who) sends down rain from the cloud then brings forth with it subsistence for you of the fruits; therefore do not set up rivals to Allah while you know.

In articles 30, verse 2:23 says:

and if ye are in doubt concerning that which we reveal unto our servant (Muhammad), then produce a Surah of the like thereof, and call your witness beside Allah if ye are truthful.

In this article, Verse 2:24 says:

but if you do (it) not and never shall you do (it), then be on your guard against the fire of which men and stones are the fuel; it is prepared for the unbelievers; those who reject faith.

The meaning of verse 2:24:

And if you do not, do what was mentioned because you are incapable, and you will not (a parenthetical statement), that is, never [will you be able to], because of its inimitability, then fear, through belief in God and [belief] that this is not the words of a human, the Fire, whose fuel is men, disbelievers, and stones, like their very idols, indicating that its heat is extreme, since it burns with the [stones] mentioned, unlike the fires of this world that burn with wood and similar materials; prepared, and made ready, for disbelievers, so that they are punished in it

In other words, the verse means: And if ye do it not-and you can never do it-) this you can never do and if you try you will never succeed (then guard yourselves against the Fire) if you are bent on not believing, for you should fear hell (whose fuel is men) the unbelievers, (and stones), (prepared) created, prepared and preordained (for disbelievers).

This designates that the verse is very confident that Mankind can never beat Allah’s challenge because the Quran is unique, incomparable , peerless and inimitable.

It is very premature to ask this question:

Is the Bible the Word of God? Or is it just a collection of human writings? How can we know for sure? Any google search on the inspiration of the Scriptures will bring up a surprising amount of results from people who do not believe so. These people can be convincing. However, these arguments are merely the opinions of their authors, with no evidence to back them up. In fact, the evidence stands against these convincing arguments–and evidence always speaks louder than persuasive words.

Perhaps the most compelling evidence for the inspiration of the Scriptures is the unity of the Bible, especially when one considers all the writers involved. The Bible does not have a single contradiction. Not even one. Yet several people, over the course of thousands of years wrote it! Most of these people did not know each other, and they came from a variety of backgrounds. If I asked ten people today to write down their thoughts about God, chances are, there would be some contradictions. Yet forty people wrote the Bible! The odds of forty people over thousands of years writing a book as vast as the Bible are astronomical. The only logical explanation is that all were inspired by one God to pen the words of what we now know as the Bible.

Another compelling reason to believe the Bible is the Word of God is because of its scientific and historical accuracy. The Bible mentions many scientific principles that were not known until long after it was written. For example, the earth was generally believed to be flat until the time of Columbus. Yet Isaiah 40:22 mentions “the circle of the earth.” This is but one of many examples. Keep in mind, the Bible writers were not scientists! In addition, archaeological finds continue to verify many of the historical facts mentioned in the Bible. Archaeology has yet to find anything in history that contradicts Scripture.

One of the more fascinating proofs of Biblical accuracy is the fulfillment of prophecies in the Bible. Archaeology has verified that the book of Isaiah was written hundreds of years before the coming of Christ, yet Isaiah accurately described the crucifixion, the promise of salvation, and many detailed aspects of Jesus’ life. Many other prophecies in the Bible have come true also. For example, the Bible predicted the rise and fall of the Persian and Roman empires in Daniel. The book of Daniel also talks about the increase of knowledge in the last days, and vast amounts of travel. And this is the tip of the iceberg. Literally, hundreds of prophecies have been fulfilled.

Some argue that the Bible isn’t inspired because man decided which books would be considered “inspired” and which wouldn’t. They also argue that some of the books that have been left out were recognized by the original disciples as Scripture. While it is true that these other books were well-known to the disciples, it is important to remember that these writings were considered Jewish literature, and the original twelve were all Jews. They were historical documents.

The men involved in the canonization of the Scriptures did not “decide” which Scriptures were inspired. They simply recognized the Scriptures that were inspired. To be considered inspired, they had to pass certain criteria. For example, any prophecies that should have come true by that time had to be fulfilled. The work had to be accepted by the church at large as inspired. The work had to be a first-hand account, or very close to it. While this sounds like man “deciding” what qualifies as Scripture, one has to remember that these men were chosen by God before they were born, to canonize Scripture, just as the Bible writers were chosen to write what would later become Scripture. Time has shown that these men correctly identified those books that were inspired, and those that were not.

In fact, the book of Isaiah foreshadowed the final Holy Bible as we know it today. Amazingly, the Bible has 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament, and 27 in the New Testament. The Old Testament takes place before the coming of Christ, when men were still in bondage to the law, while the New Testament begins with the birth of Christ and focuses on the freedom we now have in Christ. In Isaiah, the first 39 chapters are parallel to the Old Testament, in that they talk of judgment and captivity (bondage), while the last 27 chapters contain the messianic promises, which were fulfilled in the New Testament. One could perhaps write this off as coincidence or accuse the men who canonized the Bible of setting it up that way on purpose. However, the bible is so full of these types of “coincidences” that the odds are against it

No one can prove the Bible is the inspired word of God. However, the evidence is compelling. In the end, we must make a decision to accept the Bible as the inspired Word of God by faith. This is necessary to live a victorious Christian life. Either the Bible is completely true or completely unreliable. If one little line is untrue, the whole Bible becomes unreliable. Throughout history, the Bible has consistently been the best-selling (and most controversial) book of all time. It has been the most enduring book, passing every test of time. Yet no one has ever been able to prove a single line or even word of the Bible to be false. For a book as vast and complex as the Bible, this seems to be far outside the powers of man to accomplish, especially the powers of forty very different men who didn’t know each other and who didn’t realize they were writing the Bible.

As South Africans turn their hearts towards Christ, communities are being changed, and major societal problems are diminishing in Gods hands.

Color blind
Racial tensions, for example, have been extreme in this country that was formerly run by an all white government. Though the black population now has equal rights under the post apartheid leadership, they are frequently treated as outcasts by the white minority. As black citizens move into communities, white residents generally move out.

However, one pastor has challenged his all white congregation to be different. He has begun several bible studies where citizens of both races come together for the study of Gods Word. As a result, his church is growing, and tensions are diminishing. Other trained leaders are also following his example in beginning bi racial studies.

Combating AIDS with purity
As is the case with most of the continent, AIDS has also been wreaking havoc throughout South Africa. According to Operation World, it is the primary cause of death in South Africa, with more than a thousand victims buried daily. This devastating trend is due, in large part, to lifestyles of promiscuity.

Yet through Bible studies, South Africans are learning that God intended something much different. One bible study graduate says, My life is now completely changed. I started knowing how special I am before God. I even know that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.

One by one, South Africans are dedicating themselves to purity, in thought and in deed. And as their behavior changes, their risk of contracting this deadly disease decreases dramatically.

Fire in the Church
It was by Gods grace that the bible League was able to begin ministry in South Africa during the late 90s. And since then, trained Christians have been working faithfully to place Scriptures, in seven different languages, into the hands of many South Africans whose hearts have been prepared by the Holy Spirit. What is more, since each Bible recipient has graduated from a Bible study, he or she has at least a basic understanding of the salvation message it holds.

One pastor reports, My people have started to read their Bibles and share the Gospel with their friends and neighbors. And I never stop receiving new members for classes and baptism. We are a church on fire!

On our knees
We thank God for the tremendous work that He is doing throughout South Africa. And we know as we continue to place His Word throughout this country, the healing is sure to continue.

29] Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you;
