Is the Bible Relevant for Today?

by: admin Sunday, February 14th, 2010

How important is Bible study to the average person? What does the bible mean to most Christians? Most Christians have a Bible and even many non-Christians have a Bible in their home. How often does a Christian read or study the Bible? I wonder if Christians truly believe that God wrote the Bible. Do Christians take Bible truth seriously by living according to all that it states? If the Bible was truly written by God then you would think that All Christians would want to live by a standard that came from a perfect being. I would expect non-Christians to live by their own code of life but you would think that Christians would live by the words of their God that save them and gave them eternal life in heaven.

Is the Bible a book that Christians hold dear to themselves hanging on every word or a book that provides suggestions for particular problems one may be having? How often does someone use a bible commentary to better understand the Bible showing to God that the Bible is something that holds value to him or her? Is the Bible a book that holds ALL of the answers to life? Do Christians have the right to call themselves Christians and live contrary to the Bible? Some may consider the book as a guide to life picking and choosing what they want to live by. Wouldn’t that make them a god to themselves?

What if the Bible is the very Word of God and God requires all who are in His family to live by every principle and even by every word written. bible study would be very important to the one who treasures God. Do we really love God or are we just people who want to be like everybody else? Maybe we just don’t like the way the world does things or how the world looks and we just want to be in another category? Maybe many people who call themselves Christians are just masquerading as a Christian because Bible truth is not important. The world is becoming way too evil and people who want to be good for the most part are looking for a new life that they can call good. A good Bible commentary would help us to understand the standards that God requires for mankind to be like.

Many so-called Christians will not make a total commitment to Christ and His Word because the way is very extreme from the life in the world system. Are we as Christians to take the wisdom of the Bible when it comes to the right living?

If the Bible were not actually important to you then maybe it would be a good idea to just get rid of it and be who you really are. At least if your honest before God maybe you’ll have a chance to be saved instead of just pretending that you are a Christian.

I think God wants a real family who truly loves Him and obeys what He says. If you really have an appreciation for God and all He has done for you then you would automatically return your love towards God and not think of yourself but think about what God wants. The Bible is the standard for a true Christian and the ones who are really saved by the blood of Christ have an uncompressing devotion to live by every word written in this holy book and the rest of mankind are lost or are just masquerading as Christians. Maybe we need a campaign to get the so-called Christians saved starting with many of the Pastors in our churches. Put the Bible on the shelf of your heart!

Some things never change… such as how to live (and love) your life, and not to be your own final authority. And what our purpose in life is.
The stories of trials and difficulties in life aren’t much different than what we experience in relationships today.

Its relevancy does not come overnight or the night before the homework is due. Sounds more like the teacher is trying to discredit the bible because the young Christians can’t come to a definition over night about the relevancy of the bible. Will the teacher allot the same time to a question on global warming? Recycling? Health care? Or saving the whales?

The Bible is relevant in many ways:
1.) All the laws of the land (the US and most countries) derive from it.
2.) It prescribes the most efficient, right way to live
3.) If everybody lived by the Golden Rule, the world would be a much better place.
4.) It teaches that marrying a first cousin is wrong. This was before the study of genetics became advanced.
5. ) It teaches that life is sacred. This is RELEVANT to the abortion issue.
6.) It frowns on divorce. This occurs in 50% of the marriages. It gives instructions to both husbands and wives to prevent such.
7.) It’s teachings on violence if followed would make a more peaceful society.
8.) It’s teachings on reverence for established authority.
9.) It teaches God establishes rulers and can remove them if He wishes. This should sober them up.
10.) Because of Christianity many hospitals, churches, and schools were founded and established. Also shelters for the homeless, battered women, etc.
There is more. These are just a few principles. I’ll let you look up the references. All you need is a Bible with a good Concordance because you said you were in a hurry.

The Bible is not about the physical world. It changes with times and cultures. The mind or heart is timeless as man thinks, feels and reacts in the same way, no matter what time it is.

There is a war going on in your mind. It is for who you are. Are you one who chooses to have the thoughts of God, which are higher and quality thoughts, or the mind of Satan, lower and debase thoughts. Thoughts are like seeds in the mind which will grow in the fertile soil there. Actions are the plant of that thought or seed. The fruit of the plant will be sweet or bitter depending on what the seed of thought is.

How does one know the mind of God? Can man think so high? Not according to God who say "My thoughts are higher than your thoughts and your ways are not my ways". Just as a parents thoughts are higher than the little child who can not know the whole picture of why and how. The Bible gives us the thoughts of God and, as with any good king that cares for his people, the Bible gives us how to please God and what displeases the King.

You ask is the Bible relevant. Any king will judge by the law, but if we do not know the law, then we do not know how to live. The Bible agrees with the evidence written in Creation. With Creation, the Bible is two witnesses that show God and Satan and give us that fact so plain that God said there is no excuse. But man ignores how perfectly is Creation and how impossible the perfection and so discounts the relevance of Scripture.

But, truth be known, they choose to ignore because they do not want to submit to God way of thinking. But, judgment day is coming and the Word of God will be placed in the balance like the mark on the wall at an amusement park to see if we are tall enough to ride the ride. The Bible is the standard, the rule by which we will be judged.

So I ask you. Is the Bible relevant today?

It’s an interesting collection of ancient literature. It should be seen in the same light as all other mythology systems. Just because I don’t believe in Zeus doesn’t mean I can’t get valuable insight into the human condition from reading Greek myths.
